Support Group

Sophrology - your pathway to a calmer, happier, and more empowered you

A group session will either be focused on improving general wellbeing, learning to relax, managing stressors better, improving resilience, etc. or it will be focused on a specific topic such as anxiety, sleep, depression, confidence for example. So a group session is not tailored to an individual’s needs as such but is catering for the general needs of a larger group.

The benefit of a group session is that a group energy is formed, as like-minded people come together, learn, and, possibly exchange how they experience Sophrology, what improvements have been felt and how they are using it in their everyday life if attendance is over more than one session, as in a course, providing ideas and sharing their own experiences. Group sessions can vary in size depending on the aim and duration can be anything from 30 minutes to a half or full day workshop, or over a period of time such as one of our 6 or 8 week courses. There is always space at the end of the session for people to share their experience however this is not compulsory.

How the 3 Fundamental Principles of Sophrology are felt

  1. Positive thoughts, feelings and behaviours

  2. A greater feeling of being embodied and less in the head

  3. Being more objective and less judgmental, therefore generating more peace and harmony within the mind-body

The way we see ourselves, and our world, changes when we use Sophrology

"Sophrology helps to harmoniously develop our physical and psychological abilities and our inner resources, improve our performance, our imagination and creativity, focus and memorise. It improves sleep, helps overcome our fears and find our balance and joy in life. It uses imagination as a tool of change and evolution."

taken from  'The Sophrology Method' a great book by my teacher Florence Parot.

Along with our Free taster sessions, a one-off group session also gives you the chance to try out Sophrology before deciding whether you would like to have one-to-one sessions, in a safe and non-judgmental environment. Or whether you would like to move forward on one of our courses, or attend a regular weekly session. Further details about the Free taster sessions and to find out when the next session is on are on the What’s on page. Or if you would like to understand a little bit more before committing to a taster session please don’t hesitate to give Carla a call on 07884 101164 or email

Currently all group sessions are held on Zoom. Zoom is a really straight forward and intuitive online webinar facility that allows you to get online in the comfort of your own home and experience the benefits of Sophrology from your sofa. It is free and easy to down load from your computer, laptop, tablet or phone.

To help get the most out of a group session:

  • It can be useful to have a think about what you might like to get out from the session before hand and also come with an open mind with the possibility of discovering something new.

  • Wear comfortable everyday clothes.

  • Have some water to hand.

  • Bring a pad and pen to write your notes on what you have discovered, often called the phenodescription in Sophrology, at the end of the session.

  • Keep your phone switched off or on silent so you can make the most of the time you give to yourself, and being mindful of others if the group session is in person.

  • It can be useful if you aren’t either too hungry or overfull if you have just eaten prior to the session, so that you can really relax.

How much does a session cost?

Group sessions vary but can start from as little as £5 for a half an hour class, and from £45 for a ½ day workshop up to £80 for a full day workshop, and between £60 and £80 for a 6 or 8 week course.

"I’ve recently completed a six week online Sophrology course with Carla. I entered onto the course with an open mind, not really sure of what to expect or really what was going to be offered on the course. I was looking for something to complement my practise of yoga and help with my health issue of back pain of which I’ve suffered  for over 20 years. I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it, learning the different Sophrology techniques have been invaluable when dealing with my back pain, challenging situations, as well as helping me focus on my yoga practise. A great introduction to Sophrology and the start of a new journey. Thank you Carla. Namaste."
