Sophrology - your pathway to a calmer, happier, and more empowered you
It can be very useful to have one-to-one sessions with a fully trained and qualified Sophrology Practitioner to address specific concerns you may have, whether physical or emotional, in a therapeutic context, to help treat, alleviate and manage symptoms. A one-to-one session can also be a useful format to help prepare for a particular event, whether that is an exam, a performance, getting married, public speaking, sports competition, or pregnancy and labour, for example.
You will be seen and heard, in a safe, supportive and confidential space to explore what is important to you, to help empower you to address and resolve the issue, and to improve self-confidence and resilience. All sessions are now being conducted over Zoom, Skype or FaceTime. The sessions are highly tailored to meet your personal needs and situation, and will follow on from an initial free 20 minute telephone or on-line consultation to assess where you are at and where you would like to go.
Sophrology is designed to help in 4 main areas:
Treating therapeutic conditions such as anxiety, depression and insomnia
Preparing for future events

Sophrology can help us in so many different ways
What could you do if you had full health and vitality?
How would your life be in you believed in yourself?
If you had all the confidence in the world how would it feel?
How can you determine your own evolution?
What is an Individual Session like?
During the actual session I will gently guide you into a state of relaxation, were you feel deeply relaxed in body and yet your mind remains alert. In this state I will guide you through a number of different exercises specific to your needs and may include breathing techniques, visualisation, dynamic relaxation exercises, gentle flowing movements, stretches, use of sound, and relaxation techniques which are all done in a systematic way to help you overcome your issues, develop your inner potential for resilience, improve self-confidence and self-esteem, or achieve your goals.
The approach is a somatic one so that you can feel more deeply the aliveness within your own body, feeling much more grounded and embodied and less in your head. The whole experience is an enjoyable one with many people reporting beneficial changes straight away. To learn more about the benefits of Sophrology click here.
At the end of the session, there will be time for you to describe how you felt, noting which exercises would be most useful for you, where in your body you felt various sensations and how it felt for you, and what you might like to practice. This is an important part of the practice often called the ‘phenodescription’, to really help to embed the changes in your conscious mind. We will discuss how the exercises can be incorporated into your everyday life and which ones you might want to consider using.
A session typically lasts one hour, with the actual Sophrology practice lasting 30 mins, and a discussion prior to and at the end. To learn the basics for general wellbeing and to help deal with a specific issue such as anxiety, 5-8 sessions are recommended.
Be free to be who you are and live in harmony
The fundamental value of Sophrology is freedom, and so the aim is that you become confident at using the exercises so that you can do them on your own. You will develop a ‘tool kit’ of the Sophrology exercises that work best for you to take with you into your life to help you deal with life’s events positively.
Preparing for an individual session:
It can be very useful to have a think about what you might like to get out from the session before hand. Whether you are currently confronted with a health issue or you would like to use Sophrology as a self-development tool, it is a good idea to give some thought to what you would like to change or transform.
Wear comfortable everyday clothes.
Have some water to hand.
Bring a pad and pen to write your phenodescription (what you have experienced during the session) at the end of the session.
Block out the time in your calendar and make sure you are not going to be disturbed, if the session is on-line.
It can be useful if you aren’t either too hungry or overfull if you have just eaten prior to the session, so that you can really relax.
Can I find out more about whether Sophrology is right for me?
A free 20 minute consultation via phone or online is offered for you to explore whether Sophrology might be right for you, for you to discuss the issue or aim you would like to address and for me to establish if Sophrology is the best method for you - if it isn't, then I will direct you to another specialist if appropriate.
