Change how you see yourself and the world will change

This can take a while to grasp, and I’ve got to say I’m not entirely there yet myself. And in actuality it can’t really be grasped by the mind, it needs to be sensed, felt or rather known. It comes from a place of knowing and is what the saints, sages and spiritual teachers have been sharing with us throughout the ages.

We have our conditioned mind and we have the state of no-mind, which can be sensed as the quiet stillness of consciousness or awareness, that in which all our perception arises - a blank cinema screen if you like, in which our thoughts and experiences play out. It’s the ‘playing out’ of our thoughts etc that we often take as real.

This emptiness, stillness, life, God or source, we share with every person on this planet is our true Self or essence. You may have experienced this during meditation, being mindful. when you have been so engrossed in something or when you have been struck with awe, when the mind empties.

We feel separate because of this ‘other’ conditioned identity, the personal ‘me’ that we have developed. It can feel very real and is the source of all conflict, and suffering, which the Buddha talked about. As we begin to develop our awareness of this, we can begin to see more clearly how this perceived separateness causes unnecessary suffering in our lives, Eckhart Tolle refers to this as the pain body.

So although our isolation continues as we move into this second three week period of lockdown, perhaps we can relax in the knowing that we are way more connected than just the internet, telephone or postal system.
